Cocooning-Loft

For the 100 days that Documenta lasts, it isn’t easy to find accommodation in Kassel, for such a big crowd as ours. Therefore we had to lodge in a quite unconventional hostel, an old factory that has been converted for the use of young artists, and that Klaus used to call “the loft”.

This building has been used during the Documenta to house groups of students, as well as pilgrims and fans of the most varied origins. For this occasion part of the “Kulturfabrik”, as it is also known, has been prepared in two “rooms” housing 40 double bunks each, surrounded by black cloth and lit by lamps made of rope, hanging from a very high ceiling. Someone said it looked like “haimas”, but we slept soundly.
