Die Schule: Emil-von-Behring-Gymnasium, Großhansdorf
The
Emil-von-Behring Gymnasium is about
20 minutes North of Hamburg by car, 30/35
minutes by train. The small town of Großhansdorf, with its more than 5.000
inhabitants, can be considered like a dormitory suburb of Hamburg, in the
Schleswig-Holstein
Land, the Northernmost one in Germany.
The
school is made of the Grundschule or Primary School, the Gymnasium or Secondary
School and the Abitur for the students preparing their final Baccalaurete exams.
English,
French and Spanish are the foreign languages that can be learnt in this school.
The
classrooms are big and full of natural light, which can be kept out by automatic
blinds switched on and off at will, something we are not used to and which we
enjoyed a lot.
The
school has got different yards for the eldest and the youngest students, for
smokers and non-smokers. The school grounds are wide and offer lots of sports
facilities. The school was spotlessly clean and tidy.
